Simon is a writer, filmmaker and film critic and completed a PhD in Communication, examining genre theory and the influence of film noir on the post-war Australian film industry. He has made a number of award-winning short films and teaches screenwriting and directing. Simon was the Director of the Canberra International Film Festival, from 2009-2012, and regularly judges other film festivals and competitions. He is currently Director of the Stronger Than Fiction Documentary Film Festival, and curates the Winter Film Series at the National Gallery of Australia.
Cris is a freelance writer and film critic, with over twenty years experience in the film industry. Cris has worked in theatre exhibition, film distribution, production and marketing. He was the founder of the Canberra (short) Film Festival (now in its eleventh year) and a number of smaller festivals that never saw their second year, and sat on the advisory board for the Canberra International Film Festival for many years. His day job sees him managing public programs for Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in Canberra. Cris is the Director of the science film festival SCINEMA which CSIRO hosts as part of Australia’s National Science Week, and runs a regular program of student filmmaking workshops to train the next generation of science documentary makers.
